anonymous Italian engraver of the early 19th century “Gio: Batt.a Quadri Oculista insigne and Anatomical Professor in the Royal University of Bologna Year 1812” Original etching and dotted manner without indication of author and dated in plate 1812. Slightly exemplary burnished and with various small spots on the edges as well as a short tear on the high one that does not affect the field engraved, overall, given the extreme rarity, in a good state of conservation. This is the portrait of GiovanBattista Quadri (Vicenza 1780 - Naples 1851) a renowned surgeon and ophthalmologist, author of important texts in ophthalmological science such as the "Practical notes on eye diseases" four volumes published by the publisher Girard from 1818 to 1830 in Naples where Quadri was Director of the Royal Ophthalmia Clinic from his arrival in 1815 to his death in 1851 and the "Treatise on the artificial pupil" of 1824. Among the few images that reproduce this portrait, the one inserted in the related Wikipedia page is mentioned al Quadri and that contained in the essay cited in the bibliography. Bibliography: Gabriele and Cutolo "Giovan Battista Life Paintings and Medals of the man who restored sight to the people" in Numismatic Panorama n ° 9 2015 pages 47-53. Measurements in mm: 220 x 154
